melancolía

The series "Melancholia" symbolizes the sensation of pain, of loss of will to connect with the outside, the detachment of one’s feelings until provoking the diminution of the being. The Greek "black bile" highlights the characters that Juan Palomares painted.

The vague sadness of their eyes, permanent and profound, makes his models transmit a feeling of loneliness, of melancholy. In front of his works, the spectator is not comfortable, and the gazes of his emblematic figures does not seem to enjoy life.

However, despite the emotional weight, the painter was able to transmit that energy, that attraction of his models and immerse us in a dichotomy between grief and enchantment.
